WIP it....WIP it good!!

Wondering about the title? You are, aren't you? I just couldn't resist naming this post "WIP it" for two reasons...the first OBVIOUSLY is because it's of....yes....you guessed it...a Work In Progress. The second reason is because I have been listening to old rock and pop while working in the studio and that crazy song "Whip it" was playing so I thought it would be cute to make my post title what I did. YOU do remember or know the song...ri iight? It's that crazy song by the group Devo...came out in the 80's. Soooo everyone reading this should remember it...HA!!!! Now that I have heard it (pulling hair) I CAN'T GET IT OUT OF MY HEAD.

Oh well...I guess it could be worse. I could have that "Barney" song stuck in my....ok let's not think about that or I will get it stuck in there and sing it the rest of the day. Let me show you what I have been working on (and stop that..I hear you humming "Barney")

A few years ago I found two beautiful Valentine's china eggs at an estate sale. The woman said that they had belong to her Great Grandmother and she was a bit older than me....yes I'm saying she was old herself ^_^
I bought both of them with the vision of doing "something" with them but until recently my muse had not informed me as to what. The eggs open up like the vintage china pill boxes so I thought a baby cupid would look sweet laying inside.

He is a tiny lil fella....only 2" long. He just fits perfect inside the egg. I plan on putting little, tiny white feather wings on him. Well...that's what I think Cupid's wings are!! He is ready to be baked and then I will detail him some more and put some hair on his wee lil head. I hope you will come back to see him when he is complete. I'm hoping someone will fall in love with him and adopt him once he is in my Etsy shoppe. Almost like two gifts in one....a ooaks Cupid baby and a vintage glass egg.

Until next time............Hugs, Regi

HEHE...now it can be stuck in your head too....HUGS!!!

Faery Baby Keepsake!!

I love making keepsake items. A special item handmade for someone to mark a special event in their lives. This newest one is for a baby shower. The new arrival is due to make an appearance in April. WOW...that's just next month. My, my how time flies!! This is a commissioned piece. I don't make these ahead of time because I try to  have them reflect something of the person it's being given to or something that the person giving it wants it to be.

The person placing the order wanted one of my wee faery keepsakes. I was in a quandry though, as I usually use preserved butterfly or dragonfly wings for these and I am completely out. HEY....have you ever looked around for wings....they don't just appear ya know...LOL!!  I decided that since the paper bug has bitten me so hard that I would do paper wings. I found a beautiful vintage butterfly image and printed it on card stock....cut it out...embellished it and...POOF....beautiful one of a kind butterfly wings. I also did another card stock butterfly image but didn't embellish it....it's going to be the announcement card to go with the keepsake once the new arrival arrives!!!! It sits on a twisted silver wire with a tiny dragonfly charm attached.

I made a clay base that looks like a tiny tree stump.....washed it in acrylic paint to give it that old porcelain look. Then I used silk flowers to adorn the base with. The baby fae is a fully sculpted ooaks. Her face and details are painted with acrylics. Her hair is dyed lambswool....a pretty purple hue!! She is napping laying on top of the flowers. She is a tiny 2 1/2 inches long. The complete sculpt from base to wing tip stands at 5 inches tall.

If you ever need a ooak keepsake, keep me in mind and as always, thank you for dropping by. Until next time.....

Hugs,
Regi

Kaiden's Keepsake

We have a beautiful blue eyed Godson that turned one on October 20th.  What a blessing to be a part of this lil man's life. We were both so honored when our good friend asked us to be his Godparents. We have two names now that we are called on a daily basis....mommie/daddy and now GG/Gpaw. Life is good!!!

This is the keepsake I made for Amber for Kaiden's babyshower. A tiny lil baby faery, yes with tiny pointed ears which I think is the reason that Kaiden was born with tiny pointed ears too and I will never ever be able to live down now...LOL!!! He is laying on a sculpted grape leaf and his wings are real preserved butterfly wings. I love using butterfly wings but they are so hard to find. In the Native American culture the butterfly represents eternal life so I guess God brings them back home to him body and soul when their time here on earth is done. I attached silk ribbons to the piece so that it can be hung on an ornament stand or on the Christmas tree as "Baby's First".

I loved making the first keepsake so much that I decided to make it a yearly tradition for him. Since he is a October baby then of course the thought came to mind that doing a sculpt of what he is for Halloween would make an excellant memory piece. Amber has picked out an adorable costume for him this year....he is going as a giraffe. I sculpted a tiny giraffe costume out of clay and then put baby hands/feet and a sweet face on it.
Of course he is holding up his finger for how old he is.....ONE!!!!!!!!  I sat him next to the spool of thread so you could get an idea as to his size. I know it's hard sometimes to imagine just how big or small ooaks are.

Here is a side view. I think it turned out really cute. I hope that Amber will like it and I hope that when Kaiden gets grown she will let him have them...LOL!!! His keepsakes from his GG.

As soon as I pull out the Christmas ornament boxes I will find the ornaments that I have done for Chaz over the past six years and post photos. I love doing keepsakes....if you would like a ooaks keepsake done drop me an email or leave me a post. As always, thank you for looking. Hugs, Regi
